Gadopentetate dimeglumine

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gadopentetate dimeglumine (Gd-DTPA) was the first paramagnetic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast enhancer. Introduced in 1981, it has been used to assist imaging of blood vessels and the surrounding tissue by injection into the desired tissue. It is often used when viewing intracranial lesions with abnormal vascularity or abnormalities in the blood-brain barrier. Gd-DTPA is a gadolinium complex of diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid with ionic paramagnetic properties.
