Gadap Town is a town located in the northwestern part of Karachi with the Hub River on its western limits also forming the provincial border between Sindh and Balochistan, while to the north and east are Dadu District and the Kirthar Mountains. It had a population of about 290,000 at the 1998 census, of which 97% are Muslim and include Urdu speaking, Punjabis, Sindhis, Kashmiris, Seraikis, Pakhtuns, Balochis, Memons, Bohras and Ismailis.

The federal government introduced local government reforms in the year 2000, which eliminated the previous third tier of government (administrative divisions) and raised the fourth tier (districts) to become the new third tier. The effect in Karachi was the dissolution of the former Karachi Division and the merger of it's five districts to form a new Karachi City-District with eighteen autonomous constituent towns including Gadap Town.

The nieghbourhoods of Murad Memon, Gujro, Maymarabad and Yousuf Goth are densely populated whereas the remaining areas are mostly rural, especially Gadap neighbourhood which is the largest union council by area of Karachi.
