Am 16. Dezember 2004 wurde in Hamm das erste pädagogische Zentrum in einer nordrhein-westfälischen Stadt eröffnet. Das pädagogische Zentrum in Hamm umfasst neben der unteren Schulaufsichtsbehörde das kommunale Schul- und Sportamt, den Stadtsportbund, das Studienseminar für Lehrämter an Schulen, das Medienzentrum, den Offenen Kanal Hamm, die Regionale Arbeitsstelle zur Förderung von Kindern und Jugendlichen aus Zuwandererfamilien (RAA), die Regionale Schulberatungsstelle (RSB), das kommunale Förderzentrum für Erziehungshilfe „Mark Twain“ des Westfälischen Heilpädagogischen Kinderheims Hamm, den Verein für psychomotorische Entwicklungsförderung e.V Movere und das Studienzentrum der FernUniversität in Hagen. Die Grundidee des Zentrums besteht darin, einen zentralen Anlaufpunkt für Schulen und Lehrkräfte, pädagogische Institutionen und Fachkräfte, aber auch für Schüler(innen) und Eltern zu bieten, die Dienstleistungen bzw. Unterstützung in Fragen von Schule, Bildung, Erziehung und Medien im weitesten Sinne benötigen.
