Gabiley is a town in the province of Hargeisa, Somaliland.
Historically the Afraad Movement or (Jabhad) from Gabiley region under the leadership of Mohamed Ali became the first and the most successful military wing of the SNM struggle for the six consecutive years of its struggle Against Siad Barre's Military Regime.
There was no doubt that Gabiley became a battle ground between the SNM fighters and Siad Barre's Military forces even before the SNM fighters overrun their enemy forces to liberate the whole Country in mid May 1988.. gabiley is considered the third most populated city in somaliland. gabiley is the largest district and every year it gets a large amount of income due to the castom,farm production and so on. during the somaliland's presidential election the largest opposition party kulmiye<siilaanyo> told his supporters that if he won the election he will nominate gabiley as a region.this speech gave silaanyo and his party to receive popular support in that district.
