G1230 is a private educational institiute or cram school (Korean Hangul: 학원, Hanja: 學院, Revised Romanization: Hagwon) established for students who have goals in entering specialized high schools(Korean Hangul: 특수목적고등학교 Hanja: 特殊目的高等學校, Revised Romanization: Teuksu Mokjeok Godeung Hakgyo). Its name recently changed from Gulmaek Hagwon(Hangul: 글맥학원, Revised Romanization: Geulmaek Hagwon) to G1230. This institution is particularly famous for its 'Self-Study Room'. Students go to this room before and after their actual classes. Most of the time they are at this institution, more than half of it is spent at this room. This self-study time is mandatory unless wanted otherwise by the parents. In addition, students are not allowed to leave the building without a special note before this session starts. Part-time job staff members guard the entrances(Including the back doors), to keep the students from leaving.

G1230 is criticized for its harsh educational methods; however, it is often favored by some students and/or parents who desire their child or children to sustain sufficient grades and pass exams. Although some students fail and succeed, it is up to the individual taste and study-habits of the student.

The meaning of G1230 starts with the letter G. G is pronounced 'Ji'(Hangul: 지) in Korean and represents the chinese character(Hanja) '知' meaning 'knowledge'. 1230 is the weight of Albert Einstein's brain in grams.

This cram school recruits new students by advertizing. These students come to this institution and see a test. The length of the test may vary according to the level the students wished to enter. This institution teaches all of the availavble subjects in public schools(excluding some subjects such as computers, cooking, and so forth).

G1230 is disliked by students due to the fact that they use their good work to advertize. In addition, this cram school is often called by students a prison(Hangul: 감옥, Hanja: 監獄, Revised Romanization: Kamok) because it holds students for an extended period of time. During the Winter and Summer vacations, students must stay in this institution for 12 hours: 10am 10pm. Depending on what level the student is, the time they stay at the institute varies.

Liking or not liking this institution is purely dependent upon the student. However, going to this institution is said to release the ability to study alone since the school does everything for you and you are 'forced' to study. It is a true fact that some students find it difficult to adapt to studying on their own and/or not being pushed forcefully by their teachers.

This institution concentrates its good teachers to the higher level classes. The lower level classes get random teachers and have a higher educational cost. It is often criticized that G1230 is 'using' these lower-level students to maintain their financial status.

G1230 has many students and is very famous among students and parents. However, the popularity of this institution is falling as rumors spread. Recently, many students have moved to other institutions which are regarded as 'more organized' and/or 'less harsh' than this particular institution by some people.
