Fylde peninsula

The Fylde is a roughly square-shaped peninsula in western Lancashire, England. It is an alluvial plain, bound by Morecambe Bay to the north, the River Ribble to the south, the Irish Sea to the west, and the Forest of Bowland hills to the east. Parts were once dug for peat. It is the western part of an area formerly known as Amounderness.
Towns on the peninsula include Blackpool, Fleetwood, Thornton-Cleveleys, Poulton-le-Fylde, Kirkham and Lytham St Annes. The Fylde Coast, consisting of the entire peninsula, is a local justice area.
The borough of Fylde is a local government area covering part of the peninsula. The rest is covered by the boroughs of Wyre and Blackpool.
