Fusa is a municipality in the county of Hordaland, Norway.

It is also a village by the Fusafjord.

In 2003 Fusa was declared an independent monarchy as part of an art project. Morten Holmefjord was crowned viceroy (norw. visekonge) of Fusa by the leader of the municipality elders council and a treaty was signed with the elected mayor. The viceregal kingdom reverted back into an ordinary municipality in 2005 when a referendum was held. The former viceroy is now in exile in Uruguay.

[edit] The name

The municipality (originally the parish) is named after the farm Fusa (Norse Fúsar), since the first church was built there. The name is probably derived from fúss 'eager'. (Here referring to strong stream?)

Until 1918 the name was written "Fuse".

[edit] Coat-of-arms

The coat-of-arms is from modern times (1991). It shows three spirals. (To represent strong stream and the many giants kettles in the municipality.)
