[edit] Alison Furminger | Calligraphy Studio
I have practiced Calligraphy for 17 years, learning my art in Auckland, New Zealand.
I am Vice-president of New Zealand Calligraphers and operate my own studio here in Auckland.
I am developing an interest in the editorial role for Wikipedia's calligraphy pages. I have recently updated the page substantially and begun to put a reference skeleton into the Western section particularly. It remains inadequate in terms of the content omitting significant discussion of early twentieth century German calligraphy that contemporary calligraphers owe so much and similarly the discussion of copperplate is entirely rudimentary.--Furminger 04:02, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
I have performed some further revisions of the Western Calligraphy section, introduced additional references and begun to insert the names of the publishers of these references. It would be great if the section could show a better variety of calligraphic work and a range of writing styles. I'm not a fan of the current image "Urkunde". A big thank you for the new contributions on German calligraphers≈ Furminger ≈ 29 January 2007.
In 2006 I have commenced Ph.D studies at Massey University in Wellington with supervision provided by Professor Philip Dickinson (Massey) and Peter Gilderdale (Head of Graphic Design Department, Auckland University of Technology and President, New Zealand Calligraphers). My research interest is in the occupational health issues involved in practicing visual art, specifically historic and contemporary calligraphy.
The Anne Geddes-Celine Dion Miracle: A Celebration of New Life project was a very special engagement. I endorse the values represented throughout the project and was delighted to contribute to another Anne Geddes publication.
I share my life with my own 2 beautiful daughters and husband John. Apart from calligraphy I love spending time with my family, cooking, enjoying the natural world, listening to classical music, walking, swimming, and reading. I treasure quiet and solitude, and have an abiding faith in God in Christ.
