Fuqing

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fuqing (Chinese: 福清; pinyin: Fúqīng) is a county-level city of Fuzhou in Fujian, China. It is located in the eastern part of the province, just southeast of Fuzhou and borders the East China Sea.

Fuqing, as well as much of Fujian, is known for the large number of its people who travel, both legally and illegally, overseas to find work. The most common destination is Japan, with others going to Australia, Canada, and the United States. Fuqing has its own dialect which is related to the one spoken in Fuzhou, although the two are not completely mutually intelligible. Most of its people can also speak Mandarin, which is used in schools, businesses, and to communicate with others from different parts of the province. Fuqing county has approximately 1.3 million inhabitants.
