Funtua is a town in Katsina State, Nigeria located at approximately 11°32′N 07°19′ECoordinates: 11°32′N 07°19′E.[1] Funtua is also the seat of the Funtua Local Governmnent Area, which covers an area of 448 km² and has a population of roughly 162,888.[2]

The source of the Sokoto River is located near Funtua.[citation needed] Lawal Ibrahim Funtua, a People's Democratic Party member, is the representative to the House of Representatives for the Funtua/Dandume consituency.[3]

Funtua received international attention in 2002 when Khadi Abdullahi of the Funtua Sharia Court sentenced Amina Lawal to death by stoning for bearing a child out of wedlock.[4]
