Funny Women
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Funny Women is the only stand-up comedy competition in the UK entirely devoted to women. It was founded in 2003 with the sole intention in honouring female comics in an otherwise male dominanted profession. Although the awards are only in their infancy, the finals have boasted many female comics who have not only achieved recognition in Funny Women but also have appeared in the shortlists of other stand-up comedy competition finals, or gone on to win in the case of Debra Jane Appleby at the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year. The competition was founded by Lynne Parker and not only promotes female comedians, also raises money for various women's charities.
