Functional Objects

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Functional Objects Inc, or "FunO", was a Massachusetts software company founded in September 1999 by key members of Harlequin's Dylan group to develop and market the Dylan IDE originally created at Harlequin. The IDE was rebranded as Functional Developer. Functional Objects ceased operations in January 2006 and the former Dylan product line of Harlequin (software company) is now open source and accessible via http://www.opendylan.org.

The president of FunO, Jonathan Richard Bachrach, was formerly the manager of Harlequin's Dylan team and one of its key compilers and runtime developers. At IRCAM he already in 1993 developed a high-performance Dylan implementation during his work on designing a digital production studio for musicians. Bachrach then convinced Harlequin's management to start a commercial implementation of Dylan.

The company was co-founded by Gail Zacharias and Jonathan Bachrach.

Based on some comp.lang.dylan messages we can also state Johann Bachrach also once initiated Dylan.
