Fun Trivia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fun Trivia is a website created by Terry Ford originally for user submitted quizzes. It has since expanded to feature other activities, including crosswords, blogs, online game shows, and numerous time-based competitions. Currently the FunTrivia database is the home to more than 80,000 user-created quizzes covering a wide range of topics.

[edit] History
The website was created in 1994, with nothing more than a handful of weekly games consisting of 20 questions each. On today's FunTrivia difficulty scale, they were rated from "Tough" to "Impossible", and all of the questions were of the fill-in-the-blank type. Then, in March 2000, Terry Ford created the system of user accounts that gave people a chance to compare and keep track of progress, results, and points earned through answering many questions on quizzes, with topics including animals, celebrities, sports, and even topics intended for younger children.
[edit] Info About the Quizzes
When playing quizzes, each correct question gives you 10 points. If the quiz has a difficulty level higher than "Average", you will earn a certain number of bonus points depending on how hard the quiz was.
After any user has been active for a month and if he or she has already played 100 quizzes, that user has the privilege to create a quiz of their own. As Fun Trivia aims for high quality quizzes, they have set restrictions for almost every category in every subject. A user constantly submitting quizzes of poor quality, e.g., bad grammar, plagarized questions, or disorganization would result in having a delay between a quiz submission and a response from its editors. Good quiz editors are usually featured on the website (there's an area where new quizzes from good authors would be previewed). The main thing to worry about, according to some editors, is to have fun creating a quiz.
[edit] Badges
Achieving certain goals, like creating many good quizzes or obtaining a certain amount of points, would earn you a badge. There are various badges for doing all sorts of things.
[edit] Games
Besides quizzes, there are some games that uses some of the questions found in quizzes on the site.
Game | Points | Description |
---|---|---|
InstaQuiz | 2 points/question | 10 randomly selected questions would be given, and you will answer them in quick succession. After one minute, you may do another one if you wish. |
Regional Daily Challenge | 100 points for participating, points awarded based on time used & questions answered | People who live in the same area with you (same state, region, etc.) can compete together by answering the same 15 questions. Can only be played once a day. |
Who's the Smartest | Points awarded based on time used & questions answered | An hourly game where you have to answer 10 questions that are said to be a bit challenging for the average player. The winner each hour will earn a badge (if more than 80 users play)! |
Word Wizard | 50 points for participating/game | Every hour, you'll answer 15 questions about the words in the English language. All the questions will either be on which words has a given meaning, or what the word means. It can get competitive, as the winner (most correct, least time completion) would be awarded a Word Wizard badge (if more than 80 users play). |
[edit] Global Trivia Challenge
The Global Trivia Challenge is one of the most popular yet gruelling competitions on the Fun Trivia website. Every eight hours, you may play five different categories, each category containing 15 randomly selected questions from random quizzes placed on the site. Five of the categories are randomly selected from the system every eight hours and marked with an asterisk. If you play categories marked with one, you will earn extra advancement points & bonus Fun Trivia points. After completing five sections, you may play the "Impossible!" section where you can earn a little extra points by answering some of the most trivial questions ever placed on the site.
When you start the competition, you are placed in the first of ten divisions, "The Newbies". To advance, you need to get a certain amount of advancement points in each division, which is marked by a percentage. Once you get 100% or more, you go on to the next one. As you progress, you will receive tougher questions, making it harder to advance.
Once you reach the 10th and last division, "The Immortals", congratulations! You will be one of the 30 people that would make it to the 10th division; the entire competition would end when this happens. According to Fun Trivia, this will take about half a year. Winners will receive an Immortal badge to show that he or she has made to the last division. Final scores will be compiled and the top players would be shown in the "Hall of Fame".
A user has the option to switch to hardcore mode if he or she wants a challenge. If, at any time, a player "goes hardcore", the player would be set back to division 1. The player can only play the categories pre-selected by the system. The player can only get advancement points in hardcore mode when he or she answers at least 10 questions in each category correctly and finish it in no less than 130 seconds. If a player is unable to achieve that, no points!
If you switch to hardcore, you would be comparing yourself with other hardcore players instead of normal players. Often, the hardcore player never makes it to the Immortals. However, the top hardcore players will be kept in the Hall of Fame records.
Currently, Global Challenge #5 is in progress. It began in March 2nd.
[edit] Gold Membership
There are many features available for users who play on Fun Trivia for free. However, an optional "gold membership" would grant the user numerous features and privileges, including advertisement-free content and more games to play. For example, gold members can play Gold InstaQuiz!, which gives 3 points/question for harder questions, or Lord of Obscurity, a harder version of "Who's the Smartest". Also, gold members are able to add a photo to their user profile for show. Pre-made animal pictures may be used, but the user may prefer to create a profile picture himself/herself.
