(aired on September 22, 1992)

[edit] The Long Goodbye

(aired on September 29, 1992)

Episode Synopsis: At the breakfast table, Danny is watching Vicky’s Chicago news broadcast on a portable television set. Joey calls Michelle down for breakfast, but she is busy. Jesse is attempting to feed the twins, but they are reluctant. Jesse then tells Michelle to come down, but she again insists that she is too busy.

Steve and Kimmy enter. Kimmy comments about the Tanners, “You guys have family values coming out the wazoo.” Danny expresses concern that he will have to see Steve daily. Steve takes some food and leaves with D.J. and Kimmy. Vicky calls, and Danny leaves to take the call.

Teddy, a schoolmate of Michelle’s, enters. Joey greets him and informs Michelle that he is here, which prompts Michelle to finally come downstairs. They discover that Michelle has a jelly sandwich for lunch and that Teddy has a peanut butter sandwich, so they agree to put them together at lunchtime.

Later, Jesse and Rebecca are debating whether Nicky and Alex should play with “Baby Love-button”, a doll that Michelle gave them. Rebecca sees nothing wrong with male children playing with dolls while Jesse is concerned.

At school, Michelle lets Teddy dot her i’s, but, in exchange, demands to know his secret. Teddy tells her that he is moving to Amarillo, which saddens Michelle.

Steve, Kimmy, and D.J. enter while Danny is eating a meatloaf sandwich. Kimmy takes a bite of sandwich but finds it too dry and gives it to Comet. Michelle and Stephanie enter. Michelle wants to go to Amarillo, but Danny says that it is too far. Danny then decides that Chicago is too far and that he will tell Vicky that they should “see other people”.

In Michelle’s room, Teddy is saying goodbye to Michelle. Michelle asks him to play jump rope. Teddy does not know how, but Michelle teaches him. She demonstrates by jumping over the rope on the ground.

Jesse gives new, masculine toys to the twins. They include boxing gloves, an action figure, and a toy truck. Rebecca gives them the doll again, and argues that they will be better parents if they have it. Jesse begins to agree.

Stephanie and D.J. are unhappy with Danny’s decision to break up with Vicky. Vicky enters. Ironically, Vicky suggests that they see other people before Danny has a chance to make the same proposal. They realize how sad they are and begin making out. They agree to visit each other one weekend a month.

In her room, Michelle has Teddy tied up in an effort to keep him from moving away. She offers to provide him with breakfast and dinner but not lunch because she will be at school. Teddy starts yelling, and Joey responds. Joey tells Michelle that tying up Teddy will not keep him from moving. Michelle replies, “It was working till you came in.” Joey tells Michelle about how he had to move often as a child and that he had to make new friends just like Michelle will. Teddy gives Michelle his Furry Murray toy, and Michelle gives him her favorite pig toy.

Back at school, Denise, a new student is transferred to Michelle’s class. She offers Michelle sour cream and onion potato chips, which are Michelle’s favorite because the taste stays on your tongue for a long time.

[edit] Road to Tokyo

(aired on October 6, 1992)

Episode Synopsis: Joey returns home from grocery shopping, commenting that he felt bad for the Brussels sprouts, so he bought them. D.J., Kimmy, and Steve arrive and begin eating the food. Steve is pleased to find his favorite, “can-o-cheese”. D.J. announces that she’s trying out for the school newspaper, and Kimmy announces that she has been nominated for class president by the “Party-hardy Party”. She plans to use hypnosis to lure voters.

The telephone rings, and Michelle answers. Stephanie suspected that it might be Randy Richardson, the second cutest and third dumbest boy in her class. It is actually Fat Fish Records calling to inform Jesse that his single, “Forever”, is number one in Japan. Jesse agrees to spend the next two weeks in Japan, which saddens Michelle.

In Japan, Jesse is mobbed by a crowd of Japanese fans. Jesse’s busy schedule, which includes photo sessions, album signings, and a Bullet Train christening, prevents him from spending anytime with his wife and kids.

Michelle and Stephanie are in their room when the phone rings. Someone calls, apparently with the intention of ordering a pizza. The phone call ends with Stephanie delivering her catch phrase, “How rude!” Michelle then begins to talk about seeing Jesse, but Stephanie explains that he’s thousands of miles away. She then has to explain that a mile is 5,280 feet, which prompts Michelle to ask how many toes it is. Frustrated, Stephanie suggests that Michelle ought to dig to Japan.

Jesse performs in Japan, attempting to sing "Help Me Rhonda" in Japanese using cue cards. At one point, Jesse cannot read them, and he replaces the lyrics with the names of Japanese automobile manufacturers. He then performs “Forever” in English.

Meanwhile, back in the States, D.J. feels bad that her article in the school newspaper, which recommended that voters make an “intelligent choice” in the election, will hurt Kimmy’s campaign. However, Kimmy wins in a landslide, and, apparently as a result, her political party is now called the “Party-hardy Gibbler-crats”.

In Japan, Fat Fish Records asks Jesse to do a year-long tour. At first Jesse is excited, but Rebecca is appalled by the idea and leaves. Jesse eventually decides that he is being selfish and goes to find Rebecca, who is waiting outside the door for him.

Jesse arrives home to find Michelle and Comet in the backyard. Michelle is attempting to dig to Japan with Comet’s help. She is excited to see Jesse and informs him that she would have been unhappy if he had agreed to spend a year in Japan.

[edit] Radio Days

(aired on October 13, 1992)

Episode Synopsis: The episode opens with Michelle offering Stephanie help with her homework. Stephanie explains that she is writing a story and reminds Michelle that she can only write i’s and t’s, which would limit the story to a series of the word “it”. Stephanie then reads from her story, “The Potato Bug”. Michelle comments that “it it it” would have been a better story. Danny suggests to Stephanie that she write about what she knows

D.J., Kimmy and Steve enter. D.J. is mad at Steve for spending time with Kathy Santony, which inspires Stephanie to write a new story based on them, “The Young and the Jealous”.

Jesse, Joey, Nicky, and Alex enter. Danny tells Jesse about a radio job opening, and Jesse decides to pursue it. Joey announces that he’s getting a co-host on his television show, The Ranger Joe Show, and expresses dissatisfaction with the situation.

Stephanie listens through the bedroom door to Steve and D.J. while they study. She finds it boring.

Joey’s new co-host, Jungle Jenny, has hung up vines in an attempt to dress up the set like a jungle. Joey complains because the show is supposed to be in a forest. Jungle Jenny is unaware of a difference. Joey complains to the boss that his new co-host is “wacked-out and obnoxious” but quickly retracts his comment when the boss tells him that she is his wife.

At the 95.6 Rock Radio studios, Jesse arrives for an interview with All-Night Julie. He brought Joey along who initially waits outside the studio, but Julie invites him in as well. Joey is very lively on the radio, making jokes about Jesse’s hair and his obsession with Elvis. Jesse is noticeably annoyed and expresses his anger after they are off the air and Julie is out of the room. Julie returns to inform Jesse that he has the job but that Joey must be his co-host.

Later, Jesse attempts to make up with Joey by offering him ice cream and Froot Loops. Joey reminds Jesse that he is not Michelle but eventually accepts the juvenile offer. Jesse tells him about the radio show, and Joey realizes that Jesse needs him. They again start to argue. Michelle enters and attempts to resolve their conflict but eventually gives up. Jesse repeatedly calls Joey “Bullwinkle Brain”, and Joey repeatedly calls Jesse “Dipidy-doo head”.

Stephanie mischievously composes a fake love note to D.J. from a fictitious boy named Henry and plants it for Steve to find. This causes a conflict between the two, and Stephanie writes about what happens. Danny reads the story and, realizing what Stephanie is doing, informs Steve and D.J. They develop a plan to teach Stephanie a lesson.

Stephanie is writing in the kitchen when Steve asks D.J. to marry him. Danny enters, and Steve informs him of his plans. Danny asks why it took him so long. Eventually, D.J. tells Stephanie that it is not really happening. Danny offers Steve a corn dog instead of marriage, which he promptly accepts. Danny claims, “Not a woman alive can compete with my corn dogs.”

Meanwhile, on the Ranger Joe Show, the co-host hangs Joey by his feet jokingly and leaves him there. Joey decides to quit his job. Joey asks Michelle (who is a minor character on the show) to find someone to cut him down. She leaves, the lights go out, and then someone cuts him down.

Joey and Michelle return home from the show, and Joey offers Jesse a bottle of “Elvis” car wax. He apologizes to Jesse and says that Michelle taught him. Michelle is surprised but happy and says, “I did that? All right!” They agree to do the radio show.
