Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Although he’s 35 years old with a wife and young son, Alby Cutrera really just wishes he could ride all day on his Schwinn five-speed bicycle and drink cherry Slurpees.

While his wife, Suzanne, and son, Josh, love him because he is funny, Suzanne loses her patience with Alby, and after an argument, he leaves his wife with the intention of visiting Diggityland, a Florida theme park he visited in his youth.

He stop at his mother's house and looks up his childhood friend Elias. While Elias doesn't share the same fond memories as Alby, he nonetheless agrees to take the trip with Alby because he will received an award for his work as a special education teacher. Alby, meanwhile, intends to sell his precious action figures to a collectibles broker, a move he thinks will reinstate him in the good graces of his family and signal his transition into adulthood.

Along the way, the two friends meet a series of similarly damaged romantics: a hitchhiking disgruntled former theme park employee; Trina, a horny bartender who wants to be a professional clown, and a beauty whose decorated mobile home reflects an obsession with her past as a Weeki Wachee mermaid. Each pokes a new hole in Alby’s fantasy bubble of being a kid forever. Ultimately it’s one of Elias’s students, an autistic boy named Rollie, who teaches Alby the value of seeing beyond himself and taking responsibility for his actions.

Spoilers end here.
