Fukuchilite
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fukuchilite is a copper iron sulfide mineral with formula: Cu3FeS8. It is an opaque sub-metallic grey to brown mineral with a Mohs hardness of 6 and a specific gravity of 4.9. It crystallizes in the isometric system. Fukuchilite occurs as interstitial masses with pyrite, barite, gypsum, anhydrite, and covellite.
It was discovered in the Hanawa Mine, Akita Prefecture, Honshu Island, Japan in 1969. The Hanawa is a Kuroko type sulfide deposit. The mineral was also reported from the old copper-cobalt Fanny mine in the Thur Valley, Haut-Rhin, Alsace, France in 1997. It is named for Nobuyo Fukuchi (1877-1934).
