Fryer (surname)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Frere/Freer/Fryer/Friar are common surnames.
A variety of speculative derivations and connections exist concerning the origins of this surname.
It is likely to originate from Friar another name for a monk. However there may also exist an etymological connection to druidic concept[citation needed] of Frith a.k.a. fried as part of many Germanic surnames such as Wilfried, Werenfried, Alfred, Friedrich a.k.a Frederi(c)k, Frieda, etc. Also due to its Dutch origins, this surname is most likely originally Norse and thereby related to or derived directly from the famous mytho-poetic Vanir hero-priesthood Freyja and Freyr, progenitors of the Scandinavian Yngling dynasty, whose history is extant in the 9th century poem Ynglingatal.
