[edit] Gym Fire
On October 12, 2005, fire destroyed the Gibson Gym at Fryeburg Academy. The fire was determined to be arson, and two former students were charged. As a result of the fire, construction on a new gym and athletic support center was begun in the spring of 2006, and are expected to open by May 1, 2007. The gym promises to be one of the finest athletic facilities in western Maine, with seating for 750 in the main gym, a synthetic indoor track, weight room facilities, and locker rooms and storage for all of the academy's sports teams.
