Froydis Ree Wekre

Froydis Ree Wekre was born in Oslo, Norway, in a family of musicians. Since her early childhood, she studied violin and piano, although she decided to study horn at the age of 17.

She also studied in Sweden, Russia, and United States of America, as well as in Oslo, with professors such as Wilhelm Lanzky-Otto and Vitaly Boujanovsky. After being winner the first prize at a national wind competition, she obtained a post as a soloist assistant at Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, where she stayed from 1965 to 1990.

Froydis Ree Wekre is horn and chamber music professor at Norwegian Music Academy.She plays as a soloist, in chamber music performers.

She gives lectures and participates as a jury at international competitions. She was guest at the festival of Banff (Canada), Sarasota (USA) and Musica Riva (Italy). Her book 'Thoughts on playing the horn well' has been traduced into several languages.

Many composers have composed their works to her, which have been recorded by Simax and Crystal. Froydis Ree Wekre has been president of the International Horn Society for two years, from which she is an honorary member since 1994.
