[edit] Advertising
Frosted Mini-Wheats are marketed variously. They enjoyed a short stint on television advertisements with a series of commercials about one Frosted Mini-Wheat with "split personalities"; the sweet (frosted) side and the not-so-sweet (shredded grain) side argued over who was more popular. When the new MyPyramid debuted, launching the whole grain craze, it enjoyed another short-lived advertising stint as a fiber-conscious cereal. These advertisements involved a man walking around, asking "Have you had your fiber today?", then handing unsuspecting, confused people a bowl of the cereal. However, these ads have discontinued. Current advertising involves a new Frosted Mini-Wheat helping children in various childhood situations. In one, a girl in a spelling bee retracts a letter after saying it outloud and passes, despite the fact that it is against the rules in an actual Spelling Bee competition. Another has the Mini-Wheat helping a girl keep time to a dance in a school play. It promotes eating breakfast in general.
There is a new advertisement regarding the new Vanilla flavoured Mini-Wheats. The tune for this song is very catchy, and based off "Agadoo" by Black Lace. The commercial contains a mini-wheat dancing around in a "tropical villa" where he fell in love with "vanilla". He says that he's "wanted vanilla for so long" and that it's "high in fibre, you can't go wrong".
One of the newest television commercials involves its strawberry-flavored version, portraying a case of mistaken identity. A traditional, male Mini-Wheat character, seeing a pink-colored Mini-Wheat, greets him flirtatiously, only to be shocked when the latter turns out to be another male.
[edit] Ingredients
Whole grain wheat, sugar, high fructose corn syrup, gelatin, reduced iron, niacinamide, zinc oxide, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), riboflavin (vitamin B2), thiamin hydrochloride (vitamin B1), folic acid and vitamin B12. To maintain quality, BHT has been added to the packaging.
[edit] Varieties
Frosted Mini-Wheats currently come in the following varieties:
- Original Frosted Mini-Wheats
- Bite Size Frosted Mini-Wheats
- Bite Size Maple & Brown Sugar
- Bite Size Vanilla Crème
- Bite Size Strawberry Delight (New Flavor)
A short-lived experiment, Frosted Mini-Wheats Big Bite, was essentially the original cereal cut into rectangles (twice the size of the original pieces) rather than squares. The larger size holds milk differently from the smaller squares, creating a different taste quality; however, as the biscuit is larger than a normal spoon, it is difficult to eat without breaking up. This may limit this version's long-term marketability.
