Frontline Club

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Frontline Club is a media club based in London near Paddington Station in West London that supports independent journalism. It has a restaurant, club and lodging for its members and is also a talking-shop in the UK for ethical issues affecting news coverage. It draws its membership from print journalists, photo-journalists, broadcasters and cameramen.

Profits from the restaurant and efforts from Club members help the charitable work of The Frontline Club Charitable Trust.

Its founder, Vaughan Smith, is a former freelance cameraman who previously ran Frontline News TV.

[edit] History

The Frontline Club opened its doors in late 2003, soon after the Frontline News TV agency closed down. Frontline News TV was created by a group of freelance cameramen during the Romanian revolution. It went on to become a well-known player in the independent fringe of television newsgathering.

The Club was founded by the surviving members of the original team of cameramen, and dedicated to the memory of friends and colleagues who lost their lives gathering news and images from the world’s conflict zones.
