[edit] Recap

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

At the beginning of the episode, Jeremie is working on Aelita's materialization program in the middle of the night. He almost completes it, but in the last moment it doesn't work. He starts checking to make sure that Aelita connected all the data correctly. She said that she did, and also defragged the internal matrix. Jeremie gets angry at hearing this, telling Aelita that he already did that and there are bound to be errors if the two keep making the same mistakes and have breakdowns in communication. Aelita meekly apologizes and tries to kill the connection. Realizing his tone of voice, Jeremie apologizes and asks for forgiveness. Withdrawn and hurt, Aelita tells Jeremie to get some sleep. He can't hail her again over the severed link.

In the morning, Yumi comes to Kadic Junior High School to find Jeremie and the gang in the courtyard with the Vending Concourses. She asks Ulrich and Odd what they did last night, to which Ulrich replies, "Playing Tetrix Annihilator until three in the morning." Yumi turns to Jeremie, who is leaning against one of the vending halls holding a cappuccino. By the expression on his face she can tell he is in a very bad mood. After telling Yumi, Ulrich, and Odd about his argument, Jeremie decides to go to Lyoko himself and apologize.

In the Factory, Jeremie orders Yumi to man the computers. Yumi hesitates and protests, saying she doesn't have the expertise. Jeremie tells Yumi not to worry because he will give her his notes. Jeremie hands Yumi a tome chock full of leaflets, diagrams and notebook paper. Yumi winces at the sight of the War and Peace-sized notebook.

Once inside the Scanner Room, Ulrich and Odd bow and step aside to let Jeremie through. Odd motions to the middle Scanner and says in a British accent, "Your Scanner is waiting, sir."

With the notebook opened in front of her to a dogearned section, Yumi types in the codes for the transfer, scanning and virtualization process.

As the doors close Jeremie can be seen nervously looking around.

As Yumi hits the ENTER key, a (!) icon pops up onscreen and alarms sound. A problem occurs with the virtualization process.

Huddling around the interface, the gang is talking to Aelita. She says that Jeremie did not appear on Lyoko. When asked where he is, she says that he is trapped in a between zone, the Virtual Limbo. Adding a note of urgency to the proceedings, Aelita adds that the Supercalculator has confused Jeremie with an outdated program and is slowly deleting him. If he is fully deleted, he will be killed.

Yumi goes back to Kadic from the Factory to make sure the teachers don't get suspicious. While she is in Gilles Fumet's History class, she doodles a picture of Jeremie while Fumet lectures about the history of media, starting with the radio and cinema in the 1950s, proceeding to television and PCs in the 1990s and ending with the Internet at the close of the 20th century. Meanwhile, Ulrich is left in charge of the computer at the Factory whilst Odd plays Tetrix Annihilator on his Game Boy SP.

Ulrich informs Aelita of Jeremie's problem, and, ever anxious about him, she agrees to help. According to Jeremie's theories, if she collects enough data from four Towers in the four known Sectors of Lyoko: Mountain, Ice Barrier, Desert and Forest, Jeremie will be able to be rematerialized. She can communicate with Jeremie due to the fact their minds have melded inside the digital world.

XANA sees the opportunity to trap one of the most important people in Team Lyoko forever in the Virtual Limbo. After Aelita recovers the data from the Desert, Ice Barrier, and Forest Sectors, he finally realizes the AI's pattern, and sends Bloks to guard all Mountain Sector Towers. Ulrich wants to send Odd into Lyoko to aid Aelita, but cannot control the Supercalculator well enough to do so. Yumi, due to her absence during most of the day, is taken to Headmaster Delams' office by Jim, who caught her trying to get out of the school.

Ulrich returns to Kadic to try and help Yumi, but cannot talk to Headmaster Delmas directly. As a result, he tries going to Sissi, who sees the chance to get rid of Yumi forever. Even after Ulrich promises to date her for an extended period of time, Sissi refuses to talk to her father to get Yumi out of trouble. Only after Ulrich kisses her on the lips does she agree to assist Yumi. When Yumi asked Ulrich how he handled that one, he asks Yumi, "Is it okay if we don't see each other for a couple months?" Yumi becomes fumed.

After escaping from the Blok senties, Aelita is free to access the Tower. However, this Tower is isolated from the main landmass on a sky island. It is accessible only by floating stone slabs that ascend and descend regularly and some rock platforms that rotate around the Tower's island. Aelita leaps from slab to slab when the one she stands on is positioned over the next slab. When she reaches the last up-and-down obstacle, Aelita must contend with the rotating rocks before achieving the Tower. Mustering her strength and courage, Aelita leaps off the last ascending slab, skips off a rotating stone and lands on the sky island. She retrieves the needed data and is granted access to the Virtual Limbo.

While loading the data, Ulrich and Yumi notice that the Supercalculator cannot process the request and needs several more megabytes of memory. The two hook up Jeremie's laptop, but this is still insufficient. They need 10 more bytes. Ulrich notices Odd's Gameboy SP and Odd is forced to sacrifice his game for Jeremie's life.

In the Virtual Limbo, Aelita touches Jeremie's fingers, thus bringing him back to the Factory. At that moment, their minds completely become one, allowing each other to know their deepest feelings. Thus, they discover their love for one another. They don't reveal this to one another just yet, even though Jeremie hints it during a conversation between them at the end.

Later, Ulrich calls Yumi on his cell phone, trying to explain the situation he is stuck in with Sissi, but Yumi is livid over the arrangement and angrily hangs up. Ulrich is stuck yelling, "Yumi?...YUMI!" into the dial tone.

Spoilers end here.

[edit] Memorable Quotes

Jeremie: Ulrich,I really have to go.
Ulrich: Where to? The boys room?
Jeremie: Of course not! To Lyoko!
Odd: You can just thank Tetrix Annihilator.

[edit] Trivia

[edit] Cinematic Notes

  • In one scene, Odd's purple shirt is shorter than usual. His stomach can be seen.
  • When Jeremie is virtulized to Lyoko there is no wind draft and if you look in the backround while the light is flashing he's outside of the scanner.

[edit] Allusions to the Real World

  • Ulrich: Playing Tetrix Annihilator until 3 in the morning.

Tetrix is the remastered version of the classic Soviet arcade game Tetris. Tetrix is the same as its predecessor, but revamped with modern technology. The "Annihilator" part may come from Blocks Annihilator, a Tetris lookalike that did not achieve the same popularity as its competitor.

  • While Odd plays Tetrix Annihilator, he operates it on what looks like a Game Boy Advance SP, a small portable gaming platform with a popup screen and remastered controls.
