Friends with Benefits

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friends with Benefits was a telenovela planned for the American television network MyNetworkTV. Twentieth Television was developing this limited-run serial. It was based on the 2001 TV Azteca series Como En El Cine (Like in the Movies).

This romantic melodrama featured a gorgeous young woman who lives a double life to put her sister through college. She pretends to be a psychiatrist, then falls madly in love with a handsome patient. They begin a steamy affair, until his family uncovers the secret and reveals her other identity. This leads to intrigue, desperation, and betrayal.

Originally, the show was developed for syndication as Friends & Enemies, under the Desire umbrella title. MyNetworkTV then planned to run the serial for 65 hourlong episodes, airing weekday evenings, with a recap on Saturdays.

The show began pre-production on January 8, 2007, with directors Dennis Dimster, Jeff Fischer, Mitch Marcus and Jeremy Stanford. It was set to premiere on June 5, 2007 -- and casting calls were sent out[1] -- but production was postponed. MyNetworkTV's March 1, 2007 announcement that it stopped developing scripted content likely spelled an end for both the series and the network's slate of telenovelas.[1]

[edit] Trivia

Friends with Benefits was also the title of episode 108 of Fashion House, another MyNetworkTV novela, which aired on September 14, 2006. [2]
