Friends of the Bloomingdale Trail

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friends of the Bloomingdale Trail (FBT) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization founded in 2003 to advocate for the conversion of the unused elevated Bloomingdale Line on the near northwest side of Chicago to a multiuse greenspace and linear park.

[edit] History

As the approximately 3-mile-long Bloomingdale Line fell into disuse over the 1980s and 1990s, neighbors of the railroad in Chicago's Bucktown, Humboldt Park, Logan Square, and Wicker Park neighborhoods began to express interest in securing it for a greenway, à la other rails-to-trails conversions, such as Paris's Promenade Plantée.

FBT was founded in 2003 by Josh Deth, Ben Helphand, and Paul Smith to provide a organization for the growing energy around the conversion effort to be expressed.
