[edit] Cut-off content on CS Lewis page
Hello, this seems to be a browser issue, as the last few paragraphs of the page have been cut off, while my only edit was at the top on the second line. Would you be able to restore the change - "Irish " to " Irish-born British "as Lewis was undoubtedly a lifelong UK citizen) for me at the top of the C.S. Lewis entry while keeping the full page's content intact, as I seem unable to with my browser ? Thanks
Kl789 16:49, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
- It looks like this is an issue that has been debated on the talk page. When editors have discussed an issue and agreed on something, it is not a good idea to unilaterally change the agreement without further discussion on the talk page. This just leads to edit wars.--FreeKresge 17:04, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Psychology Wiki
Hi FreeKresge,
I noticed that you have degrees in Psychology, and thought you might be interested in this project which I am involved in, The Psychology Wiki.
I won't say too much, as I'd like you to judge it for yourself, but you should find that it is different from Wikipedia, because approximately 90% of our contributors so far are psychologists, academics, or students and trainees.
Its hosted by a company called Wikia, which was founded by Jimmy Wales and Angela Beesley. There are Google Ads on the site, but we dont make money from the project, they're just to pay for the bandwidth, storage and technical support that Wikia give us.
Have a look and see what you think
[edit] re: Category:Date of birth missing
Good evening. Per the discussion about privacy concerns expressed at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Privacy of birthdays, date of birth should generally not be added to the biographies of living non-public or semi-public figures. So far, that policy has been interpreted fairly strictly with a pretty high bar being set for the definition of "public figures" who are assumed to have given up their rights to privacy.
By the same token, we should not be adding Category:Date of birth missing to articles unless we have made the case that the person meets the "public figures" threshold. Otherwise, we're just baiting new users into adding content even though the community has already said that we shouldn't include that particular data point. Category:Year of birth missing is okay but the exact date is often not. Thanks for your help. Rossami (talk) 05:39, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- I have no problem with using Category:Year of birth missing instead of Category:Date of birth missing, but the person in question was elected to statewide office in Texas, so she clearly is a public figure.--FreeKresge 03:35, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] TalkImpact
What do I have to do, to get my page to stay? BrianRFSU 05:14, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- First, you need to check out WP:WEB to see the criteria for keeping pages on web sites. Pretty much, you have to show that TalkImpact meets one of the three criteria on that page. If it does not meet one of the criteria, there is nothing that you can do. If it does meet one of the criteria, put a {{hangon}} tag on the TalkImpact page and describe how it meets one of the criteria on the talk page. Then, edit the TalkImpact page to show how it meets the criteria. Most importantly, you have to cite sources. WP:CITE explains how to do so.--FreeKresge 05:25, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Nice revert!
The powers of mediawiki community never ceases to amaze me. I spotted the vandalism on 'Genesis', and about ten second later, I went to history to fix it, only to find it had already been done. I know that's just coincidence on my part, but nice enough for me to give you the biggest thumbs up! (d*mn! why do I keep forgetting my sig?) -Zepheriah 00:09, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bernie S
I removed the db-bio notice you restored to Bernie S. The degree of asserted notability is sufficient to not warrant a speedy delete in my opinion, tho I'll shed no tears if you send it to prod or AfD. Caerwine Caer’s whines 01:23, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Anti-vandalism efforts
Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my user page and about a dozen other pages on 2007-01-26. I didn't see it until today. --Walter Görlitz 23:46, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] European Dark Age
The Redirect to Dark Age you suggested is in error, as the Dark Ages page talks about the history of the Dark Age concept not the nature of the period I am discussing here (Please see the talk pages for the need for this article)
Regards
John D. Croft 16:19, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
- I went to the Dark Ages talk page and all I could determine is that the page is a mess. A page entitled "Dark Ages" needs to be an overview of everything concerning the Dark Ages including the origins, history, aftermath, and concept. If they want a page on just the Dark Age concept, they need a subtopic page with a name like "Dark Age concept" or "Concept of the Dark Ages."
- The talk page suggested that history of the Dark Ages should be covered on the Middle Ages page or one of its subtopic pages (perhaps Early Middle Ages). I would be willing to redirect European Dark Age there unless you want to do so. However, as it stands, the European Dark Age simply covers material that should already be covered on existing pages.--FreeKresge 17:06, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

- I think perhaps you are right, and I'll undertake to make the changes when I can in the next week or so.. I am pretty flat out at the moment, so it will have to occur then. John D. Croft 23:33, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Removal of John Eric Hawkins
I would like to add a page for John Eric Hawkins. I started a page last night and found it deleted this morning. John is much more NOTABLE than some of the other photographers on the list and his work is taught in some larger schools(My source is retired in Greece, trying to reach him). I am not the best at adding pages to the wiki but I try and this was the second try.
Do I have to pre-type the whole page for it to have the content you need or want? I usually add small bits at a time. I have added other pages and edited with no trouble until I try to add John, both times, does someone not like him? Frustrated.......... Lathama

[edit] About biscuit
I am a 12 year old who changed Biscuit to biscuit (dog). I am very sorry and did not mean any vandalism, I just wanted to put my dog on Wikipedia. If you can, can you put this page under another relevant title and tell me? Again, I am very sorry and did not mean any harm. -Pennybiscuit Pennybiscuit 15:56, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Why did you revert Biscuit?
Please read the revert page and the number 2 bullet under "Don't". Again, I'm 12 and didnt mean any harm. Please, reverse this and just put my article under a disambaugation. There is nothing harmful;see the Biscuit talk page. Please, reconsider and message me back. Pennybiscuit 15:59, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
- Regarding the above two edits: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a place for personal expression. It is not appropriate to take a legitimate page and replace it with an essay about your dog. If you want to write about your dog, get a page on MySpace or set up your own web site. Please leave Wikipedia for those who are serious about writing an encyclopedia.--FreeKresge 03:24, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Why did you revert my talk page i dont want it!
stop
- It does not matter if you want it or not. Your talk page is not your personal space to do what you want. It is a place for other editors to communicate with you. The warning templates on your talk page are there for a reason. Rather than delete them, I suggest that you read them carefully and try to learn from them.--FreeKresge 03:24, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] HUH?
Hi, FreeKresge. I don't think Rob Rachlin is the most ocmmon name in the owrld, and since it's mine, I was wondering what the below item referred to. It appears to me that you took steps to eliminate some undesirable content posted by someone, and I can't help but wonder whether I might have been the target of the original attack. Whether I was or not, I appreciate your effeorts in trying to keep the Internet a decent place for decent people. Still, if you could shed any light on the content that you were referring to, I'd be most grateful. robrachlin@hotmail.com
Thanks!

- To be honest, I do not remember what was said. Once it is clear that a page was created to attack someone, I am usually more concerned with getting rid of it than in studying the details. I know that typical attack pages tend to be generic (and immature) insults without details about the target to indicate which person with that name is the target. The only other suggestion that I have is to contact an administrator who might be able to view the deleted content and let you know what was said.--FreeKresge 03:31, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
