As long as there is stll refrence to it being known as a Gravity Roll (and have Gravity Roll re-direct to Freehand technique), that should be fine. ~Lanscader

Yeah, it's also referred to as a Gravity Blast, but the merger should be good. And yes, it isn't very hard to do (getting really smooth and good would take a little work, but it's not like "few can do it.") And I'm pretty sure it wasn't used by jazz guys - there's so much stuff that "old jazz cats" supposedly used to do, but I doubt very much of it is true, including this. Even Buddy Rich, there's no video of him using any sort of rim technique like this. - Steven

There should be a distinction between gravity blast and the free hand technique (also known as "gravity roll"). A gravity blast is apparently incorporating alternating bass drum and hi-hat strokes at the same time as the free hand technique (gravity roll) is going on. Gravity Roll should be known as slang for Freehand technique. Its also not hard to do. Also, it certainly did come from jazz.
