The date of origin according to this article is 1999 although the first freeform track as cited in this article is Ultraworld 5 By DJ Eclipse which appeared as track 17 on the second cd on bonkers 2 which was released in 1997. Perhaps this can be changed or perhaps a reason as to why it cant - hsd

The title "freeform" didnt gain acceptance until 1999... before that it was primarily referred to as Trancecore or "Kenneth" (by the members of the USH.net forum) due to the name of the person who objected to the title Trancecore.  ALKIVAR™ ☢ 14:40, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
