Freudenthal institute for science and mathematics education

The Freudenthal Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (FIsme) is committed to improve Science and Mathematics Education. The FIsme achieves this through research, education, curriculum development and professionalisation.
The FIsme has two departments: the department of Mathematics and the department of Science.
The institute is part of Utrecht University in the Netherlands and it was founded in 1971 by the German/Dutch writer, pedagogue and mathematician, Professor Hans Freudenthal (1905-1990). The institute has an international reputation, and is running projects in many countries, in particular in the Netherlands and the USA. Since 2003 an international institute for mathematics education, Freudenthal Institute - USA (Fi-US) was established in collaboration with the Wisconsin University in Madison, USA. Since January 2006 Fi-US is reallocated to the University of Colorado at Boulder.
