Fresh (musician)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fresh (real name Dan Stein) is a UK-based drum and bass artist, and one of the principal members of Bad Company. He is widely known for his talents as both a DJ and producer, and considered among the most popular and influential British junglists[citation needed].
Along with the three other members of Bad Company, he founded a record label, BC Recordings, as well as the Dogs on Acid. Starting initially as the group's official website, it has evolved to become one of the premier drum and bass websites, and claims to have the biggest dance music forums in the world[citation needed].
In resuming his solo career in 2002, Fresh founded Breakbeat Punk, which after only one release merged with Adam F's Kaos Recordings to become Breakbeat Kaos in 2003. In 2004 Dogs on Acid was given its own imprint, which was ostensibly created to release tracks from the site's users; however as of 2007 it has only put out 3 releases, all produced by artists with previous releases on other labels.
Recently voted No.1 Drum and Bass producer in the world by Knowledge magazine[citation needed], Fresh was the leading member of drum and bass super band Bad Company UK whose track The Nine was voted no.1 drum and bass track of all time by Drum and Bass Arena[citation needed].
Fresh has worked with artists ranging from Pet Shop Boys, DJ Shadow, Apollo 440 to Andy C and Grooverider.
Breakbeat Kaos is one of the biggest record labels in drum and bass, and its 2005 release of Australian drum and bass group Pendulum's debut album Hold your Colour sold over 100,000 copies[citation needed], making it the most successful drum and bass album sold on an independent label to date.
Fresh has had his own tracks included on a number of commercially-released mix CDs including the 2006 release "Jungle Sound: The Bassline Strikes Back!", Andy C's "Nightlife" series, DJ Hype's "Drum and Bass Warfare", and Goldie's "Drum and Bass Classics".
In 2006, Fresh released his first studio album, "Escape from Planet Monday", featuring the already successful singles[citation needed] "The Immortal", "X Project", "Nervous" and "All that Jazz" on Breakbeat Kaos.
