Frequency rock night

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Frequency is the name of an independent rock night which was established in June 1999 and continues to this day. When Frequency was first established the emphasis was on covering the 'nu metal' scene which at the time was emerging from the underground. The club also covered grunge, metal, punk and, controversially (for a rock night) hip hop music. Also notable, the DJ gave full support to emo, hardcore, metalcore and new music in the first part of the set.

As the popularity of nu-metal faded the club started to embrace the 'new emo' scene and bands such as My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy and Finch were given heavy support before they experienced mainstream success. This change helped keep the club night relevant and helped appeal to a new audience, although it did attract critics who held the misguided opinion that the club had turned into a 'emo night'.

As well as a successful club night, the night was host to live bands and helped support the local music scene by putting on gigs by bands such as Fallout 40, Bumsnogger, Coriolus Effect, Spoonfed, Reasons Known, Element, Asphyxiate and Evil Scarecrow.

The club is based in the Nottingham venue Kudos, which was previously known as Obsessions and, before that, O'Reilly's.
