[edit] History
Frenchtown Square Mall opened in 1987 with four anchor stores: Elder-Beerman, Hills, Phar-Mor and Sears. JCPenney was added a year later as a fifth anchor. In the mid 1990's, it also featured an Office Max that could only be accessed from outside. Hills left Michigan in 1993; their store was replaced with Target in 1994. In the late 1990s, Office Max and Phar-Mor closed. Both of these stores became part of a new Elder-Beerman Home Store. Old Navy opened in the 1990s. In 2005, JCPenney closed, and was replaced by Steve & Barry's in the same year.
