French 9th Armoured Company (World War II)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 9th Armoured Company was a mechanised force composed almost entirely of Spanish veterans from the Republican side of the Spanish Civil War. It is best remembered for spearheading the French 2nd Armoured Division's liberation of Paris from German occupation, in World War II, August 1944.

Having distinguished itself in battles in France and Germany, as part of the 2nd Armoured Division, it is one of a number of allied units to claim to having been the first to reach the Kehlsteinhaus (Hitler's "Eagle's Nest") in the German Alps.
