Freedomain Radio

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Freedomain Radio is a podcast hosted by Stefan Molyneux, an anarcho-capitalist and atheist philosopher.

[edit] Central Themes

On Freedomain Radio, Molyneux argues that there is no moral justification for the existence of government at all. Molyneux also proposes that religion and family corruption cause individuals to defend state policies that would otherwise be considered irrational. Molyneux considers the state as a psychological projection caused by a corrupt childhood.

Molyneux believes, based on historical examples and logical extrapolation, that modern nation-state governments are moving in the direction of major economic and political collapse. His show regularly explores the concept of what stateless societies in the future might look like, and how free-market systems of dispute resolution, public service and pollution control might fulfill the societal functions currently supplied by tax-funded agencies.

Although Molyneux spends a significant amount of time arguing the practical benefits of free markets over government agencies, he postulates that the true value of any given proposition cannot be known based solely on an analysis of its effects (The Argument from Effect). In contrast, he proposes that truth must be derived from the underlying morality of a proposition (The Argument from Morality). Freedomain Radio, therefore, places great emphasis on Molyneux's effort to prove the morality of libertarian philosophy.

[edit] Format

The podcasts are generally composed of either a recitation of one of Molyneux's essays, or a "traffic jam" in which Molyneux records his thoughts during his commute to his office job. A wide range of topics are addressed during the shows, which vary from about 30 to 90 minutes in length each. The first episode of Freedomain Radio was recorded on November 19, 2005, and well over 650 episodes have been produced since, making it one of the most prolific podcasts, alongside Madge Weinstein's Yeast Radio.
