Freedom League (Freedom City)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Freedom League is a fictional superhero team in the Freedom City campaign setting of the Mutants and Masterminds role-playing game. Like most aspects of Freedom City, the Freedom League is designed to invoke the feel of a familiar aspect of the comic book superheroic genre, with the League representing popular Silver Age superhero teams such as the Justice League of America (from DC Comics), or the Avengers (from Marvel Comics). Most of the Freedom League's individual members are also reminiscent of well-known comic book superheroes.
[edit] Members
The League has had many members over the years. The following are some of the most noteworthy:
Bowman - gifted archer, analogous to Green Arrow or Hawkeye
Captain Thunder - analogous to DC's Captain Marvel, but his origin story is similar to that of Hal Jordan, the Silver Age Green Lantern.
Daedalus - the same Daedalus from Greek myth, an immortal inventor, currently uses a flying battlesuit to combat evil; an Iron Man analogue with a mix of Vandal Savage and Marvel's Ikaris.
Dr. Metropolis - living embodiment of Freedom City. Most similar to Jack Hawksmoor from Wildstorm Comics' The Authority, but with aspects of The Spectre. His name is taken from Doctor Manhattan of the Watchmen series.
Johnny Rocket - Third generation super-speedster. Obviously analogous to the Flash. The character is also openly gay, invoking Flash's enemy-turned-ally Pied Piper and Alpha Flight speedster Northstar.
Lady Liberty - The latest in a long line of women to embody the spirit of Liberty. A pastiche (in both senses of the word) of Wonder Woman, DC's version of Uncle Sam, and Promethea.
Pseudo - shapeshifting telepath, analogue of Martian Manhunter with elements from Marvel's version of Captain Marvel. Pseudo was formerly an agent of the alien Grue.
The Raven - Daughter of a costumed vigilante who follows in her father's footsteps. Similar to Batgirl or the Huntress.
La Siren - Voodoo Loa in human form. A combination of Namora and Aquaman with magical overtones and elements from Thor.
Star Knight - Earth's representative of a Galaxy-spanning cosmic police force similar to the Green Lantern Corps or Rom and The Spaceknights.
[edit] Other Aspects
The Freedom League has an orbital headquarters dubbed the Lighthouse, with "teleportals" to and from Earth, similar to the Justic League's Watchtower. Their former HQ was a mansion in the middle of Freedom City (like Avengers Mansion), replaced with a state-of-the-art complex called Freedom Hall (like the Hall of Justice from the Superfriends).
