Free Ride is a song written by Dan Hartman and performed by the The Edgar Winter Group. The single was a top 20 US hit in 1973. The song is also in the movie Dazed and Confused. It was also covered by the Christian rock band Audio Adrenaline on their 1996 album Bloom. A version of this song (presumably a cover, or possibly a live version) is used to comic effect during the opening credits of the movie Air America, over a bunch of quick takes of the Vietnam War.

On Feb 20th 2007, American Idol contestant Rudy Cardenas Opened season 6 of the popular television show by performing a version of "Free Ride." The performance was met with less than enthusistiac reviews from the show's judges and Rudy was one of the first contestants to be cut from the competition.
