Free Dominguez
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Free Dominguez is a musician, singer and songwriter.
Dominguez was born and raised in Texas, with a mixed ancestry of Cuban, Spanish, and German. At age 20, she moved out to Los Angeles. Two or three years after landing in L.A., she had decided to devote full time to her music and, about two months later, met Bruce Somers. They teamed up and formed Kidneythieves, an industrial band, and released two full length albums under the Extasy Records label - Trickster (1998) and Zerøspace (2002). One review of Zerospace said of Dominguez: "Imagine Trent Reznor with breasts and you've got the sound that Kidneythieves vocalist and lyricist Free Domiguez produces."
Music from Kidneythieves' album trickstereprocess (a re-release of their album Trickster) was used in 2003's Ion Storm/Eidos Interactive game Deus Ex: Invisible War. Dominguez also provided the voice for the character of pop-star NG Resonance.
After Extasy folded, Kidneythieves disbanded. In 2004, Free decided to go the solo route and released the album Freedoming, a homemade album primarily featuring Free's vocals in front of only an acoustic guitar. To prepare fans for her second album entitled 'Core: A Zone', a 6 song EP she considers a prelude to the album was released exclusively on iTunes in 2006. In January of 2007, Dominguez confirmed the rumors of a Kidneythieves reunion via a newsletter stating that her management brought her and Bruce Somers back together to record together again. In that same newsletter Free made mention of a new project she is working on called Hex Orchestra as well as working with producer Lee Groves on writing material that might or might not feature her in a vocal capacity.
