Free Academy

The Free Academy (Hebrew: האקדמיה החופשית) was founded in 1999 in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Founders and top executives are Roy Arad ("Chicky"), Joshua Simon, Ari Libsker, Nimrod Kamer, Hagai Boaz, Maayan Strauss, Rinat Berkowitz, Asaf Galay, Vaan Nguyen, Yossi Atia, Efrat Abramov and others.

The Free Academy organizes debates, lectures, cultural demonstrations and exhibitions in several arts. Its members are poets, filmmakers or journalists.

In the winter of 2005 The Free Academy published a new magazine, Maayan Magazine for poetry, art and ideas, and with its second issue appeared also Maarvon a supplement on cinema.

The Free Academy Israel produced films through its Avriri Cinema production unit. Avriri is responsible for making screening nights and lectures around Israel. Its founders are Nimrod Kamer and Yossi Atia.
