Frederick Rowe

Frederick William Rowe (September 28, 1912 – June 20, 1994) was a Canadian politician and Senator.
Born in Lewisporte, Newfoundland and Labrador, he was educated at Mount Allison University and the University of Toronto. After graduating he became an educator.
In 1951, he was elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly as a Liberal member for Labrador. From 1956 to 1966, he represented the riding of White Bay South and from 1966 to 1971, represented the riding of Grand Falls. He held many cabinet positions including Minister of Mines and Resources, Education, Highways, Community and Social Development, and Finance.
In 1971, he was appointed to the Senate by Pierre Trudeau and represented the senatorial division of Lewisporte, Newfoundland and Labrador. A Liberal, he served until his retirement on his 75th birthday in 1987.
An author as well, his published books include, History of Education in Newfoundland, Extinction - The Beothuk of Newfoundland, A History of Newfoundland and Labrador, and his memoirs, Into the Breach.
