Frederic Trench, 2nd Baron Ashtown

Frederick Mason Trench, 2nd Baron Ashtown (25 December 180412 September 1880) was an Irish peer.

The son of Francis Trench and Mary Mason, and nephew of the 1st Baron Ashtown was High Sheriff of Galway in 1840. While his claim to his uncle's title was admitted on 12 July 1855, he succeeded actually already on 1 May 1840. Lord Ashwtown died, aged 75, in Clonodfoy, County Limerick and was buried in Woodlawn, County Galway on 17 September 1880.

Trench was married twice. He married firstly Harriet Georgiana Cosby, daughter of Thomas Cosby and Charlotte Elizabeth Kelly, on 29 August 1831 and secondly, Elizabeth Gascoigne, daughter of Richard Oliver Gascoigne and Mary Turner, on 10 February 1852 in Aberford, Yorkshire. He had four children by his first wife:

  • Hon. Harriet Mary Trench (d. 1884), married Major Hon. Frederick Le Poer Trench, son of the 3rd Earl of Clancarty on 6 February 1883
  • Hon. Charlotte Elizabeth Trench (d. 1854)
  • Hon. Frederic Sydney Charles Trench (1839–1879), married Lady Anne Le Poer Trench, daughter of the 3rd Earl of Clancarty on 30 April 1867 and had the 3rd Baron Ashtown
  • Hon. Cosby Godolphin Trench (1844–1925)
