Fred "Cappy" Capossela Stakes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Fred "Cappy" Capossela Stakes is a race for thoroughbred horses. Held since 1885 in February at Aqueduct Racetrack, this race was originally called The Swift Stakes (where it was held at Sheepshead Bay), until its name was changed in 1993 in honor of racing announcer, Frank Caposella.
The race is open to three-year-olds willing to race six furlongs on the dirt. An ungraded stakes, it offers a purse of $70,000.
In the distant past, it's been won by the likes of Hanover, Oiseau, and the great Coaltown.
