[edit] Career
[edit] Atlanta
From 1999 to 2006, Toucher worked for WNNX, Atlanta's alternative rock radio station 99x. Before 99x, Toucher worked on an AM radio station in Gainesville, GA. Toucher was the host of 99x's morning show, "Toucher, Jimmy, and Leslie" and took over for Steve Barnes in 2003. Before he became the host of the morning show, he worked late nights on 99x starting in 1999 as a disc jockey. During this time, he hosted various shows, including Mandatory Metallica and Living Loud. On March 17th, 2006, Fred Toucher ended his seven year career at 99x when he broadcast his last show at Fadó Irish Pub in Atlanta, GA. His contract with 99x ran through October of 2006, but he was released from it by the station's new management, who wanted to take the morning show in a different direction.
[edit] Boston
On Tuesday, April 25, 2006, it was announced that Toucher would be joining former 99x alums Chris "Crash" Clark and Rich Shirtenlieb on WBCN 104.1 FM in Boston doing the afternoon show. The Toucher and Rich Show started on June 5, 2006. In their first full "book" the duo is second in the Boston market in M 25-54 and 3rd M 18-34.[citation needed] He has been known to be touched by big guys when he gets drunk.
[edit] Controversy
Once while interviewing Morgan Spurlock (director, "Super Size Me"), Toucher insisted on doing the interview alone on his show in Atlanta, despite sharing the show with 3-4 other hosts, claiming that he disagreed with the film's theme; He baited Spurlock several times during the interview but Spurlock did not respond to any of his jibes. Fred Toucher has been more than candid in discussing his father-in-law's business ventures.
Although they have only met once in person, Fred Toucher and director Kevin Smith have engaged in an ongoing conflict consisting of several exchanges of online/on-air defamations. The discord between the two began when Smith appeared on the 99x morning show to promote his 2004 film Jersey Girl. Their disagreement about the film involved disparaging remarks made by Toucher in the days after the first Smith interview. Kevin Smith, who frequently posts on his own View Askew message board, has made several posts pertaining to the quarrel between the two.
On July 19, 2006, Kevin Smith was on the Opie and Anthony Show, which is broadcast on WBCN, the same station that Toucher and Rich worked for at the time. Kevin Smith brought up his history with Fred Toucher, and Opie and Anthony, at first, went along with Smith in bashing Toucher. Upon realizing that their show was broadcast on the same station as the person they were bashing, they soon stopped.
On July 25, 2006, Steve Barnes, at the time a morning personality on dave fm, WZGC, filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court for copyright infringement and defamation against Fred Toucher, his former co-workers, Jimmy Baron and Leslie Fram, Cumulus Media Partners (the owners of 99X) and Unihost (the owner of American Pie)[1].
Family Troubles
Fred Toucher also has problems with extended family. On his show he has mentioned numerous times of the aunt who called him a drunk for causing a scene at a family wedding. Two lesbians members of his extending family also accused him of inapporpiate behaviour, who bad mouthed Fred Toucher on a video blog.
