Fred Ngoga Gateretse

Frederic Ngoga Gateretse (b. July 23, 1979) is a Burundi politician, member of the Union for National Progress (UPRONA) party and leader of UPRONA's reformist movement.

Ngoga Gateretse was born in Bujumbura, Burundi and attended U.S. universities. He is from the Tutsi ethnic group. He also serves as a regional analyst-Africa with iJET Intellingence Risk Systems,Inc based in Annapolis, Maryland.

At the age of 15, Ngoga Gateretse joined the Rwandese Patriotic Front (RPF) fighting to stop the genocide in neighboring Rwanda. He is also served on the board of Global Justice, an organization that provides technical expertise to youth organizations working on activist campaigns.

On July 2, 2002 Ngoga Gateretse stated at the launch of a UN sponsored study about youth and HIV/AIDS:"Young people have the unique capacity to reach across false boundaries of nationality, race and economic status to affirm our common humanity and work toward a shared vision. By uniting the creative energy and courage of young people with the knowledge and expertise of academia and professionals, Global Justice empowers youth and students to be informed activists. The Global Justice translates moral outrage and policy analysis into action to change global AIDS policy and protect a generation of young people from infection".

On April 1, 2003 Ngoga Gateretse told Charles Cobb, Jr of Allafrica.com that:" the problem in Burundi has never been an ethnic problem; it's a political problem with ethnic dimensions. We have an established system in Burundi. It's a coalition of criminals and opportunists. These criminals maintain the system to protect themselves."
