Freaky Friday (Stock Markets)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The 3rd Fridays of: March, June, September, and December. These dates have special significance for traders of Stock on US markets, as these trading days coincide with expiration days of stock index futures, stock index options, stock options and single stock futures.
Also known as Witching days.
The 3rd Friday of December is particularly ominous and associated with high volume of trading and unexpected stock market fluctuations, although this is probably based as much on superstition than actual empirical observation.
These dates are sometimes also known as Triple Witching day, although since December 2006 some sources refer to it as Quadruple Witching due to the recent addition of single-stock futures futures from OneChicago which expires on this date.
