Franzia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Franzia is a brand of wine produced by The Wine Group, known for its 5-liter "wine in a box". It is the number one table wine in the United States. The Wine Group is the third largest wine company in the world, behind Constellation Brands and the DGP Wine Gallery.
The Franzia brand has no relationship with Fred Franzia of the Bronco Wine Company, also known for its low-cost Charles Shaw Wines.
Franzia is also used for a drinking game known as "Slap the bag". In this game, players remove the bag of wine from the box, and then drink directly from the tap. After drinking for a certain period of time, the user removes his lips from the tap and whole-heartedly slaps the bag of wine. There is also a variant of this game where the bag is whole-heartedly slapped before the user puts his lips to the tap.
Franzia may also be used for a drinking game called "Tour de Franzia", in which teams of 3 compete against other teams in an attempt to see who can finish their box of wine first.
