Franz Karl Kruspe

Franz Karl Kruspe was a musical instrument manufacturer active in Erfurt, Germany at the end of the 19th century. He manufactured the batyphone, a type of contrabass clarinet originally designed by F.W. Wieprecht in 1839.

The company he founded in 1834 was inherited by his sons Eduard and Friedrich, and is now known as Ed.Kruspe.

Kruspe are particularly known for their horns, which have been played by Barry Tuckwell and Ifor James, among others.
