Franklin is a city in Robertson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,470 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Robertson CountyGR6.

Franklin is located at 31°1′34″N, 96°29′10″W (31.026222, -96.486086)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.4 km² (0.9 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,470 people, 533 households, and 351 families residing in the city. The population density was 616.9/km² (1,594.4/mi²). There were 626 housing units at an average density of 262.7/km² (679.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 75.51% White, 19.52% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.41% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 2.93% from other races, and 1.36% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.84% of the population.

There were 533 households out of which 36.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.5% were married couples living together, 17.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.0% were non-families. 30.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.20.

In the city the population was spread out with 29.0% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 18.4% from 45 to 64, and 20.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 85.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 80.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $27,400, and the median income for a family was $33,889. Males had a median income of $31,818 versus $20,441 for females. The per capita income for the city was $13,490. About 15.4% of families and 18.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 23.5% of those under age 18 and 25.0% of those age 65 or over.

The City of Franklin is served by the Franklin Independent School District. It consists of Roland Reynolds Elementary, Franklin Middle School, and Franklin High School. A new high school building is currently being built next to the old one and the middle school campus is receiving an expansion. As of the start of next school year, the Middle School campus will be the new elementary, the High School Campus will be the new Middle School, and the new building will be the High School.
