Frank Austin Pallin

Frank Austin Pallin or Paddy Pallin (1900–1991). Born in 1900 in Yorkshire England he emigrated to Australia in 1926. An original member of the Sydney Bushwalking Club which was founded in 1927. In 1930 during the great depression he began producing lightweight, waterproof outdoor equipment and clothing.
In 1975 he established the Paddy Pallin Foundation to assist conservation projects and in the same year was awarded an Order of Australia. Pallin was involved in numerous community organisations including: the Youth Hostels Association, the Scout Association and the National Parks Association of NSW.
In 1934 the book Bushwalking and Camping ISBN 0-9590121-2-5 was written by Paddy Pallin, the book is still being published today in its 14th edition.

- Helped to establish Pennant Hills Scout Camp.
- In 1934 he published the first edition of Bushwalking and Camping.
- In 1963 started the annual Paddy Pallin Orienteering Competition.
- In 1964 established the Paddy Pallin ski classic.
- Started the Paddy Pallin outdoor store which still runs to this day.
- Was pivotal in the foundation of the River Canoe Club.
- Was a founding member of the 'Search and Rescue Section (which was the predecessor of the Police Search and Rescue).
Paddy's autobiography Never Truly Lost is often looked at as an inspiration to anyone interested in getting out into the wilderness.
