Francisco Ribalta

Francisco Ribalta (1565 - 1628) was a Spanish painter of the Baroque.

He apparently apprenticed with Navarrete working in the Escorial. His earliest work is from 1582 was a Cruxifixion was signed in Madrid in 1582. The later pieces have Tenebrist drama and expressiveness. Jusepe de Ribera was one of his pupils.
