[edit] Education

Bartlett graduated from Massachusetts Agricultural College (now known as the University of Massachusetts) in 1905.

[edit] Career

Bartlett taught horticulture at the Hampton Institute in Virginia for two years before relocating to the New York area, where valuable shade and ornamental trees were dying. It was because of this that he founded The F.A. Bartlett Tree Expert Company in 1907. He later would return to his alma mater to accept an honorary doctorate.

In 1913, Mr. Bartlett started the Bartlett Arboretum as a place to live, train, and do research. Today, this site is known as the Bartlett Arboretum and Gardens and is open to the public.
