[edit] Notes

  1. ^ Differs from IOC count of 26. One gold medal, that of Michel Théato, has been removed, as Théato was Luxembourgish. Two gold medals, from mixed team results in sailing, have been added.
  2. ^ Differs from IOC count of 41. Two silver medals, from mixed team results in tennis, have been added.
  3. ^ Differs from IOC count of 34. One gold medal, from a mixed team result in polo, has been added.
  4. ^ a b The official IOC count. Albert Coray was the French competitor, though the IOC credits his marathon silver medal to the United States. Including Coray's medal would give France 1 silver medal, putting the nation 10th in the overall medal standings.
  5. ^ De Wael counts 47, noting that Houben did not actually compete and claiming that M. Cadet and Victor Cadet are the same person. Houben is listed on the IOC's medallists database for his membership on the 2nd-place team in the 200 metres team swimming, though does not appear to have actually swum.
